Halloween: SEX, PUMPKINS, AND COSTUMES
Halloween craze started in gay culture:
Halloween is a holiday with ancient pagan roots, but the modern extravaganza of candy, pumpkins and sexy nurse costumes is as American as the Fourth of July. Some folklorists trace Halloween to an ancient Celtic holiday in the British Isles. But until recently, the British had long forgotten the day: Two decades ago, Halloween hardly existed in the United Kingdom, never mind continental Europe or Japan.
All that has changed in the blink of an eye. Halloween has gone global -- and Halloween's success tells us something interesting about the modern world.
The British grocery chain Tesco sold 1.4 million pumpkins on Sunday. The chain estimates that its Halloween sales have tripled since 2005. British parks sponsored free Halloween spectacles: ghost walks, pumpkin carving. Trick-or-treating is spreading through London neighborhoods.
But in the United Kingdom as in the United States, the real money is found in the grownup aspects of the holiday: costumes, dance parties, club nights. The growth in adult Halloween dwarfs pumpkin sales. The British marketing firm Planet Retail estimates that overall Halloween business in the United Kingdom has jumped 2,000 percent in the past decade.
The holiday is catching in Germany, too. Influenced by U.S. military personnel, the Germans used to acknowledge Halloween as a children's holiday. But since 2000, Halloween has become an adult craze.
One-third of German teenagers attended some kind of Halloween party this year. The biggest of all the German Halloween parties takes place at the original Castle Frankenstein, reportedly inspiration for Mary Shelley's novel, near Darmdstadt in the Rhineland.
The Japanese have taken Halloween to over-enthusiastic heart. Consumers can now buy Halloween Bento boxes and seasonal pumpkin-flavored Kit Kat bars. Bizarre, horrifying and -- above all -- sexy costumes have become a national pastime.
To understand the global appeal of the Halloween holiday, go back to its origins. Those origins are found not in mystic Celtic folklore, but in modern gay culture.
Halloween is overwhelmingly an adult holiday. This year, for example, Americans spent an estimated $800 million on costumes for children, $1 billion on costumes for adults. Where did that adult dress-up party begin?
As best we can tell: in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood. In the 1970s, that neighborhood emerged as the heart of a new home-owning, bourgeois, coupled gay community. A local variety store had long sponsored a Halloween street festival for kids. In the 1970s, the street festival transitioned into an adult party of lavish costumed theatricality. The "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" -- a troupe of transvestite nuns -- got their start here.
The Castro Halloween party spread to other gay neighborhoods in the 1980s: Greenwich Village, West Hollywood, Key West, Florida. In 1994, University of Florida anthropologist Jerry Kugelmass published a book on the new trend, "Masked Culture," describing Halloween as an emerging gay "high holiday."
And after a while -- the straights imitated.
From the spread of disco in the 1970s -- to the habit of paying money for sparkling waters such as Perrier -- culminating in Halloween, gays have incubated and developed major cultural trends. Straights adopt, and then ungratefully forget whom they are adopting from -- just as American Christians forget how much of the modern Christmas music they enjoy was written by Jews, starting with the most popular of them all, Irving Berlin's "White Christmas." The majority culture forgets what the minority culture has produced.
The "masked culture" first developed by the gays of San Francisco has reached across the lines of orientation -- and now jumped across the boundaries between nations and languages. It's not just a party. It's an ideal of personal emancipation, self-expression and self-fulfillment -- an ideal that loses none of its power when it takes the form of a sexy nurse's outfit.

Missing woman's body found, baby's father charged in her death
The body of Ms. Janell Crystal Aaron, 20, a missing women was found behind Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Jonesboro. The hunt for the corpse ended Thursday after a search that began back in July when she turned up missing. She was last seen leaving her home in, River-dale. The woman's husband and father of their eight month old daughter, Mr. Errol Alexis Moore Jr., 19, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and concealing the death of another person. Investigators explain Mr. Moore lead them to the victim and they are currently awaiting an autopsy to finalize the cause of death.
This case was interesting in the fact this couple was extremely young. They were babies themselves. I can only imagine how both families feel as they are left to deal with court cases, funerals, and "A BABY."
I also choose this case because it reminded me of the Scott Peterson case. Not all the details and facts. No this is not even familiar characteristics of the Scott Peterson case. However, it does involve a father, a baby, and a dead wife.

Chauvel, Charles The captive at sea!!!
To my fellow peers,
The oceania film entitled "The Bounty" is by far a film you should not have missed. This great film composed of eightteen sea crew ship members lit up the screen as the experienced disastrous storms, extreme famine that erroupted into Thomas Hobbes theory of war, all against all, for the few bread crumbes available. The crew out in the bounty experienced many things such as exiling members of the ship and making their way across the bounty.

copy cat films
Copy cat media has dangerous effects on society. I believe in today's society media has effects a the way civilized people become uncivilized, the way youths are lead to distructions. This is mostly seen in films and the music industry today and what they portray. This is all viewed in reality tv shows. People everyday, wake up and try to imitate the new music video or the new reality show out. So basically my argument is saying this copycat phenomenon leads to nothing but destruction.

Polotics/Technology
The authors comments on why we believe things that are not true. I believe he did and excellent job in doing so. The example of broadcasters Edward R. Morrow and Walter conkrite exemplied trustworthy information in relations to the billions of search engins we cannot trust that come up today. I am a vicitim of base rate fallacey in which I favour immediate searches when researching news and information for my own leisure and course work . I also believe I am a member of the confirmation bias every time I reserch for course work by scrolling on one site and finding the information I am looking for without actually reviewing two or three sites thorougly for similar or baised information. Confirmation bias occured a few weeks ago when I was quickly referencing a date on the Cold War era on wikipedia and was given faulty information. The 'Department of Information' would be a great source to finalize the real facts. However, a source like this would not work. who's really going to admitt their information? Who wants to be penalized and stripped of their speech? and finally the search engins that has emerged today would be disenfranchised, causing dilemmas on people leisure. Some people like "BS"
Love, Peace, and Harmony_The Samoan Wedding
Sepha, Michael, Albert, and Stanley are all male Samoan adults in the film, The Somoan Wedding. The film is consumed with females, sex, alcohol, and the Somoan culture. The Somoan culture defined as Love, Peace, and Harmony is ruined by the four main actors Albert, Michael, Sepha, and Stanley as they are caught red handed ruining other Samoan weddings. These disastrous moments consist of sex in the honeymoon limo, Excessive drukeness, and the depletion of the brides wedding cake. All of these disasters occured at different weddings and led to a faultering dilemma. The four where banned by the family pastor from their good friend and Michael's brother Sione's wedding. Given an ultimatum to either find dates that meant something and found some good in them or they would not be permitted into Sione's wedding. For Sepha this was not a problem under the circumstances he was already in a serious relationship. Michael, Albert, and Stanley were left with a major plague. The four Samoan's did what they did best and hit every trashy bar up getting wasted and buying drinks for women trying to find a date. Due to the fact they all had different interest of women they took different approaches to the date they so desperately needed. Michael a gentlemen was infactuated with wealthy married white women, Stanley lets say was the opposite of Michael found great presteige in internet dating, and Albert was gangster, shy to ladies although he had one infront of him which would not only be perfect for the wedding but perfect for him. The film resulted in the four Samoan boys' becoming men. they all found out alot about themselves as individuals and found respectable women to date beisdes Michael who's date was a complete cheating smutt. Sepha went through many problems with his sweetheart. However, in the end they unified in engagement with a child on the way. The movie is hallarious, I would own a copy. it is seriously funny and this was one you should not have missed. Educationally, the Samoan culture Love, Peace, and Harmony was achieved by the end of the film.

Third world Islands IN TROUBLE
Solomon Islands is an soverign state in oceania, east of Papua New Guinea, consisting of nearly one thousand islands. The capital, Honiara provides the best market in the pacific selling goods such as fire wood, housing materials, and cocanut oils, the major sells consisted of fish and vegetables wrapped in green banna leaves. Everyone from adults to adolescence works the market. The fish and vegetables are green and for sale every day of week besides, sunday, the entire market shuts down for a complete day of rest. The villiage of the solomon islands is most famous for the Second World War, there was fierce fighting between the Americans and the Japanese in the Battle of Guadalcanal between 1942-45, in which 7,000 Americans died. It is also considered the malaria capital of the world. This part of the world is considered to be underdeveloped with many issues that should be addressed by a major power. currently the island of Solomon is heavily invovled with imports and exports by sea, relying soley on foreign aid. Foreign aid is illustrated on a microfinance level, exalting women as the bread winners of the island. However, the Island is in much danger with the rise of sea levels the land will eventually be lost resulting with a huge group of refugees to migrate to another land.

What is in fact relevant is that fact that the United States needs to mind their business and let other fight their own battles.

Real Life Inspiration: Rabbit Proof Fence
in 1931 Australia was largely rural. The land was seperated by three 1,500 mile long rabbit proof fences to keep the animals off the growing agriculture. The land of Australia was composed of many different regions and tribes. The Jingalong village of Australia was most famous for the acts passed and the half caste individuals living there. The people of mixed descent were proud people of the rural area and of Jingalong. However, due to the victorian half caste act of1886. Half caste children by decree could be removed from their homes in order to assimilate them into white culture. The assimilation process consisted of a 1, 200 mile long stay away from their village Jingalong and proceeded with forcible living such as staying in dormitories of 12 to 16 people in which they were locked at night. The dormitories were dingy and toilet assistance was provided by a bucket that was emptied by a different Australian every morning. The transformation to the white culture consisted of speaking english, praying, and work shops. The film Rabbit proof fence is a real life example of how Australians were held captive and transformed. However, the film shows you that the half caste individuals of Australia were not only being transformed to better their lives, they also were being assimilated to better the lives of other individuals. As you will see in the film half caste children from Moore River, the missionary Jingalong and people of mix descent were sent to not only became part of the white culture, they too became slaves and whores for home owners across Australia. You see this in the escape of three young Jingalong females. The females, sisters and members of the village Jingalong escape on foot and follow the Rabbit proof fence 1,500 miles back to Jingalong. Along the voyage one is taken captive and the remaining two proceed to make it home triumphing through periods of famine, fatigue, and agony with the assistance of clothing and directions by many in their return to their mother-land. The story is truly inspiring due to the Fact the oldest sibling of the three girls who escaped in the film Molly, shows great leadership, courage, and honor to her family. They never give up and this relates to life for most of us. "WE MUST NEVER GIVE UP!" "KEEP WALKING"

Face-book Deviance blog:
http://www.facebook.com/
Some people will view this blog in shock that I would call a social-net work a deviant website and some will agree with me. Keep in mind I am now 21 years old and I was once a Face-book user at the age of 17. Face-book is great. However, the deviance of the site is how it directly affects citizens in the United States due to their amoral pictures and status's they post. Face-book was originally a college based website but modern Face-book is used for communication of corporations, friends, and family of all ages and cultures. The site has availability to resources from people all over the world, you can send gifts, play games, etc. The site is great and I encourage people to use and stay in touch with new and former peers. However, for amoral people and people of low standards the site should be labeled deviant. I argue this statement by saying whatever you put on Face-book is there to stay, even if you delete it. So what you while following the wrong crowd today will follow you in tomorrows interview with your future employee.

Blog Assignment 2
The article chosen highlights Media as propaganda. The withdrawal of troops from Iraq informed Americans that the troops were headed home. The public announcement on 8-31-10 by Prime Minister of Iraq, Nouri Al-Maliki Informed Americans and Iraqi politicians of the independence and sovereign he and Iraqi forces were ready to implement. The article criticizes why the announcement was made that the soldiers of the United States would be leaving Iraq. Propaganda is at its highest when in fact 50,000 soldiers will remain in the Iraq. In-fact the announcement was really stating that the United States will no longer have occupation in Iraq. The level of criticism is at a moderate level and the critique is fair. However, the level of criticism could be higher. If we announced that we are leaving we should pack it all up and leave them alone. There are no suggestions for improvements. However, the government and media should stay as far as they can from propaganda in any form and speak with clarity in an informative manner. http://www.prwatch.org/node/9412

Media Fast
I choose Saturday September, 4th for my media fast. The fast was not difficult for me at all. I awoke at 8:00 A.M. to shower and get ready for a mandatory breakfast. My fast ended within an hour when I began to praise Jesus Christ by listening to gospel on my I pod while I walked to the breakfast. Yet, after breakfast my fast resumed and was upheld for the remainder of the day. However, I did run into an unavoidable instance of media by watching film on my opponent for the night. Although I was on a tight schedule there were many short breaks and time allowed to get dressed for the game. While on most game days I watch other games or listen to music, I read my bible and prayed. All in all, my fast was not difficult due to the fact I was on a tight schedule preparing for my season opener against Morehead State University. After the football game, my fast was easier due to the fact that my family came to see me play and they had my undivided attention until they left and I passed out.
